VC~ROCKS! Blog Hop #2, 2012…

Welcome to the second installment of the 2012 VC~Rocks blog hopping!
This weekend I have some cards for your viewing pleasure that were recently made with my stampers. These cards were cased or inspired by other stampers unless otherwise noted. If I know where I saw it, I share… otherwise, I have to beg forgiveness because I have no idea exactly where I saw these ideas on the web. (If you do, please share :).
First up:

This “Thank you” or “Congratulations” card was so easy to make! I used two different Sizzix (by SU) embossing folders: Elegant Lines (119277) and Square Lattice (119976) to emboss the Not Quite Navy Square and the Very Vanilla strip that is under the Crumb Cake taffeta ribbon. I stamped the “Home is wherever I’m with you” (Forever with You stamp set – 126727 Clear) design (hidden by the For You piece ) and hand cut it out. The designer paper is from the COMFORT CAFÉ (126898) and is cut at 5.25X4. The card base is a piece of 8.5x5.5 Midnight Muse, one of the brand new In-Colors! Midnight Muse and Not Quite Navy  (aka NQN) coordinate *well* together!!! The Very Vanilla piece is @ 1.5x4, the NQN square is @ 2.75x2.75. Also on the card front are another stamped piece, using the Midnight Muse new-style ink pad (as was the Home is stamp). We then cut it out by placing the Apothecary Accents Framelit (127003) on top of the stamped cardstock (cutting side down) on a piece of magnet sheet to hold it in place, and ran it through my Big Shot. Very easy to place that correctly doing it that way. The final piece here is a brad from the Antique Brads (117273).
CUTTING TIP – Cut the straight lines at the corners first – from outside into the joint where the curve starts. Then, turning the cardstock into the scissors, cut the curve from point to point. Take it from this former school Art teacher, turn the cardstock or paper into your scissors to cut… don’t move the scissors around the paper – you’ll just cut better and more easily!
My second card is an older one that I just love Smile

I used Crumb Cake cardstock, Not Quite Navy cardstock  punched with the scallop edge punch, and retired brown stripe wide grosgrain (loved that stuff!). We made this card sometime back, but I think I never shared it!
We also used the Four Frames (123442 Clear) stamp set and Soft Suede ink (I stamped and then punched with the Decorative Label – 120907 – punch). If you look closely you can see that the pearl appears to be colored – I used my NQN marker and colored the pearl (page 175 in the new catalog), and allowed it to dry a bit. Then I used a tissue to buff it a bit, but it still retains the NQN essence stain on it – love the look!. Finally, I also used retired DSP (but it wasn’t retired when I used it, honest!). I used Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430) to raise up the label piece.
My final card is one based on a sketch I’ve seen several times, using colors that caught my attention when I saw a similar card online – I changed it very slightly.

This card was made at my May “So long, farewell” meeting…. I’m so sad to see these go – again with the wide striped grosgrain (sniffle) which in this case I cut in half lengthwise and allowed to fray a bit. Then – oh this is SO simple – I stamped the spiral from Trendy Trees (retired) in Real Red, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight, punched them with my 1 1/4 square punch and placed them on a strip of Pumpkin Pie cardstock. Mounted all of it on Daffodil Delight cardstock cut 4.25x11 and called it macaroni… er DONE!
(The cards are photographed on a flower arranging frog – my elder daughter, Kari, found this one in an antique shop and bought it for me – isn’t it cool??!?!?!)

Thanks for stopping by and looking! Come back soon!

Cheekies Inkpad (This blogger was ill.  While I'd like to blame it on the monkeys and pirates, I think it must have been the punch from the laundry room)

I loved the simplicity of the last card. The same stamp image repeated but in a different color and different location - very effective. Thanks for sharing!
